Istrian Peninsula
The Istrian peninsula is the northernmost part of the Mediterranean region, which can easily be visited by car from any part of Europe. This is an advantage that many Europeans and lovers of the peninsula gladly use. The Istrian landscape attracts an increasing number of guests every year.
The beaches are rocky and pebbly, so the sea is clean. Rarely does a public beach have a blue flag as a sign of water purity. The climate is mild Mediterranean: not too hot summers, warm springs and autumns, and cool and not too cold winters. The peninsula is full of tradition, authentic experiences, tempting gastronomy, a touristically developed coast with clean sea and rich history. an interior that abounds in greenery.
On the coast of Istria are picturesque Mediterranean towns: Umag, Novigrad, Poreč, Rovinj, Pula… while the interior of Istria is recognizable by the hills on whose peaks are fairy-tale towns: Grožnjan, Motovun, Oprtalj, Gračišće… and the olive groves and vineyards below them preserve the warmth and scent of the nearby sea.
What has made this peninsula stand out in recent years compared to all other parts of the Mediterranean is its gastronomy. The backbone of pasta dishes in 1001 ways, again combined with sauces in 1001 ways: from truffles, game, cheeses, vegetables, seafood… and who hasn’t heard of real Turkish ham! Malvasia – a white semi-dry wine and Teran – a red wine, is the most popular drink here, and wine and olive branch are getting stronger and more appreciated in the world from year to year. In addition to gastronomy, this is a region that also stands out for its outdoor activities that extend the tourist season to the whole year, so the summer months are reserved for water sports: diving, sport fishing, surfing…; while the rest of the year is more oriented towards sports activities such as cycling, hiking, trekking, tennis, horse riding… etc.
